Certificate of Competence in Foundational Spirometry short course and Spirometry Quality Assurance and Over-reading workshop

Can you imagine how exciting it is to find 18 people from one hospital in one city in one classroom who are brand new to spirometry. What an opportunity to improve respiratory health care in this community. The Pan African Thoracic society supported by IMPALA held their 10th spirometry training initiative in the charming city of Kumasi in Ghana from the 8th – 12th September 2018. Hosted by Prof Emmanuel Addo-Yobo and his wonderful team at School of Medical Sciences, Kwame Nkrumah Univ. of Science & Technology (KNUST) and Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH), a 3-day Certificate of Competence Short Course was held followed by a 1-day Quality assurance and Over-reading workshop. The team comprised doctors, nurses and trainee specialists at KATH some of whom may be assigned to other hospitals in the very near future.  A full and wonderful week was had by all.

All 18 participants share 1 spirometer to gather and submit their portfolios of evidence but appear undaunted as their workbooks are rolling in as they should and certificates of competence issued. Congratulations to all involved.
