LSTM has been named Knowledge Business of the Year at the Liverpool Echo Regional Business Awards 2017.

The award was one of ten presented during an event at Liverpool’s St George’s Hall and was accepted on behalf of LSTM by Jayne Jones, the Head of LSTM’s Clinical Diagnostic Parasitology Laboratory,Philippa Tubb, MD of Well Travelled Clinics and Duncan Preston Director of Finance. The event was hosted by television presenter Ranvir Singh and attended by more than 500 people.

The awards, now in their 23rd year, are staged by the Liverpool Echo in conjunction with Business Post Magazine and are sponsored by DLA Piper and KPMG. They are designed to recognise businesses and individuals from across all sectors who have driven innovation and contributed to the economic landscape throughout the region. This is the first-time LSTM has ever entered and LSTM’s Director, Professor Janet Hemingway, is delighted with the award. She said: “It is fantastic that LSTM has been recognised for the contribution that it has made to the region. A great deal of our work benefits people in the tropics but it is important to us that local people understand what we do and the positive impact that we have in the UK, particularly in Liverpool by attracting investment and world-leading scientists to the region.”

LSTM was shortlisted against IT company Adept4 plc and vTime Limited, which provides a virtual realty meeting platform in the Knowledge Business category, and was selected as the awardee by a panel of judges, including Editor of the Liverpool Echo Alistair Machray and Emeritus Professor Tom Cannon, from the University of Liverpool’s Management School.
