Administrator

The Clinical Diagnostic Parasitology Laboratory has a part time opportunity for an Administrator to join the team and be responsible for key areas of administration within the Laboratory.

Founded in 1898 and the oldest of its kind in the world, the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine (LSTM) is an internationally recognised centre of excellence for teaching and research in tropical diseases.  Through the creation of effective links with governments, NGOs, private organisations and global institutions and by responding to the health needs of communities, LSTM aims to promote improved health, particularly for people of the less developed/resource poorest countries in the tropics and sub-tropics.

The department of Clinical Sciences brings together staff working across a broad range of clinical areas such as lung health, viral haemorrhagic fever response and tropical clinical trials unit. The Clinical Diagnostic Parasitology Laboratory is a service provided by the Clinical Sciences Department within LSTM.  The Laboratory offers a UKAS (United Kingdom Accreditation Service) accredited nationwide diagnostic parasitology service for all specimens of human origin. Samples are received from many hospitals and clinics around the UK and Europe. The laboratory provides diagnostic testing for a broad range of parasitic infections, such as, malaria, Schistosomiasis and Strongyloides.

The Clinical Diagnostic Parasitology is accredited by UKAS and due to increased demands of audit requirements and pressure on the team, a vacancy has arisen for an Administrator whose primary focus will be on the key areas of administration in relation to audit and quality, by way of carrying out audits and gathering evidence to satisfy audit objectives in compliance with ISO15189, reporting back to the laboratory manager and the rest of the team on the audit outcomes,  and deal with any non-conformities found by performing root cause analysis.  You will manage document review timeframes and draft administrative documentation where required.

In addition to audit work, you will provide general administration for the team, deal with patient records by way of retrieving files and entering data into the electronic patient database in order to generate patient result forms, whilst ensuring confidentiality and GDPR is adhered to.  You will complete basic financial tasks for the team such as month end invoice checks and entering data into finance spreadsheets.

To be successful, you must be qualified to GCSE Level (or equivalent) including Maths and English and have proven experience in the use of Microsoft office applications, it would be desirable if you had experience in the use of a manual quality management system.  Experience of performing audits and knowledge of the investigation of non-conformities and root cause analysis. You will have meticulous attention to detail and sound knowledge of internal audits, regulatory control and appliance.  The ability to communicate and develop effective working relationships is essential as you will be dealing with a range of people at all levels from diverse cultures. You must possess strong interpersonal, organisational, time management and numeracy skills, and an excellent working knowledge of MS Office applications.
