Alumni and Donor Relations Officer

A unique opportunity to make a significant impact on a growing global organisation

The Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine (LSTM) was founded through the philanthropy of the visionary industrialists who recognised the devastating impact of tropical diseases over 120 years ago.  We were the first institution in the world dedicated to tropical medicine research, and we continue to lead today, investing in the brightest minds, the best facilities and cutting-edge innovations to break the cycle of poor health and poverty.    Research at LSTM has never just meant working in a laboratory. We work in the field, often in challenging circumstances, and collaborate with arange of partners and donors to ensure our work meets the needs of the people, communities and countries who need it most.

As our fundraising gathers momentum and we continue to recruit more donors, the time needed to steward these relationships becomes more significant.  We have undertaken a project already to find and reconnect with our alumni, and now need to deepen this engagement through a more sustained programme of activity which the appointment of a new Alumni and Donor Relation Officer will address.

The post holder will assume responsibility for supporting the fundraising team in stewarding the relationships with donors to LSTM, whilst working across the organisation to scope, develop and implement a number of projects to engage alumni and other stakeholders. We also expect the incumbent to lead on the co-ordination and collation of donor reports and contribute to other key communications such as the website and the annual report.  This post has modest income generation targets.

Given the nature of the role, the successful candidate must have previous experience of working  independently in building relationships with supporters, members or customers and be able to demonstrate the ability to manage multiple projects with numerous clients requiring different outcomes.  Ideal candidates will be educated to degree or equivalent level or have substantial experience of working in a comparable role that requires analysing andmanipulating data to produce high quality reports and using these to make recommendations for action. Above all, candidates will need to demonstrate agility, flexibility and creativity in building meaningful relationships on behalf of a global business. This is a fantastic opportunity to take real ownership and build something from scratch whilst making a significant contribution to a growing global organisation.

Closing Date: 13th January 2019

This job is unlikely to attract a Tier 2 Certificate of Sponsorship (formerly a work permit).  Applications from candidates who require Tier 2 immigration status to work in the UK may not be considered if there are a sufficient number of other suitable candidates.  To apply for a Tier 2 Certificate of Sponsorship, employers need to demonstrate that they are unable to recruit a resident worker before recruiting an individual overseas.

We believe that this post will not be suitable for individuals on Tier 5 visas as these posts are not considered to be supernumerary to the organisation.
