Departmental Secretary

The Department of Tropical Disease Biology is recruiting a Departmental Secretary to provide an efficient and effective secretarial and administrative service to the HoD and the team. 

Founded in 1898 and the oldest of its kind in the world, the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine (LSTM) is an internationally recognised centre of excellence for teaching and research in tropical diseases.  Through the creation of effective links with governments, NGOs, private organisations and global institutions and by responding to the health needs of communities, LSTM aims to promote improved health, particularly for people of the less developed/resource poorest countries in the tropics and sub-tropics. 

Owing to an internal promotion, an exciting opportunity has arisen within the Department of Tropical Disease Biology for a Departmental Secretary to join the dynamic team. The successful candidate will be focussed in delivering a high-quality service to the Head of Department and other members of the team, by providing an efficient and effective secretarial and administrative service.  

Main duties of the Departmental Secretary will include diary management for the HoD, administration and organisation of committee meetings, travel itineraries and academic visits as well as managing departmental accounts. You will also contribute to research activities and report preparation, in addition to coordinating with Communications team to ensure that Group webpages and intranet is up to date. 

You will have a minimum of five GCSE’s (or equivalent) and evidence of continued professional development relevant to the post, along with proven skills and experience in administration including organising meetings and taking minutes, diary management, budgeting spreadsheets and establishing and monitoring administrative systems. Excellent communication and organisational skills are essential to the role, as is the ability to tactfully handle confidential information, prioritise your own workload and adapt to changes within a fast-moving environment.
