The Department of Parasitology at LSTM is one of the largest of its kind with a broad portfolio of research activities targeted at improving the control of parasitic diseases worldwide. We have an exciting opportunity for a Technician to work with a diverse team supporting the A·WOL consortium which is a drug discovery and development programme to develop safe macrofilaricides for river blindness and elephantiasis. The focus of this role will be to implement, sample, process and analyse A·WOL III screening activities to assess novel chemotherapeutic interventions targeting Wolbachia and their impact on the filarial nematode host. The post holder will assist with the maintenance of filarial nematodes and vector systems and will be expected to participate in other areas of research associated with the research programme as required.
Ideal candidates will have relevant experience of working within a research laboratory and experience of standard laboratory protocols. Additionally you will have proven experience of undertaking molecular biology techniques including DNA extraction and PCR. Educated to BTEC Higher Level (or equivalent) in a Biological/Chemical Sciences, you will also be expected to have knowledge and understanding of the maintenance of parasite and vector systems.
