Andrew Riordan is a Consultant in Paediatric Infectious Diseases and Immunology in Liverpool. He received his medical education at Southampton University and obtained the Diploma in Tropical Medicine and Hygiene from the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine.

He was Johanne Holly Research Fellow at the University of Liverpool and wrote his Doctoral Thesis on Meningococcal Disease. He was lecturer in Paediatric Infectious Disease at the University of Birmingham, UK and then developed the Paediatric Infectious disease service there, before returning to Liverpool.

He has helped produce NICE guidance on the management of fever in children and NICE quality standards for the care of children with meningitis and meningococcal disease.

Andrew was a member of the Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation since 2008 and has chaired the Meningococcal and Travel Sub-committees.

Andrew’s research interests have included the early management of invasive bacterial disease in children, imported infections and gastroenteritis.

He teaches Undergraduates and Postgraduates about paediatric infection, immunology and immunisation.
