Dr Hannah Jary

Honorary Appointment

Specialty Registrar in Public Health, Health Education England North East
Academic Clinical Fellow in Public Health, Institute of Health and Society, Newcastle University

I have worked with LSTM since 2012 and, with Professor Kevin Mortimer as my primary supervisor, have undertaken a PhD as a Wellcome Trust Clinical Research Fellow. My research interests are regarding the effects of household air pollution and the epidemiology of chronic respiratory disease and pneumonia in adults in Sub-Saharan Africa. As part of my doctoral studies I completed a case-control study regarding the role of household air pollution as a risk factor for pneumonia in Blantyre, Malawi with the Malawi-Liverpool-Wellcome Trust Clinical Research Programme. I am now working as a Speciality Registrar in Public Health (Academic Clinical Fellow) in the North East of England, and I look forward to continuing working with LSTM on future studies to address the gaps in epidemiological evidence regarding acute and chronic presentations of respiratory disease, which is necessary to reduce the major public health burden seen in Africa.
