External Sources of Funding

Scholarships, fellowships and grants are available from a range of funders and organisations.

Potential funders include:

  • The Wellcome Trust - funding for researchers who wish to investigate important global health issues relating to tropical medicine and disease, as well as life, health and wellbeing, using creative approaches that push boundaries
  • Medical Research Council (UK) - funding for research at the forefront of science to prevent illness, develop therapies and improve human global health
  • British Council - funding options for international students undertaking postgraduate study in the UK
  • The British Academy - funding schemes for researchers
  • The Leverhulme Trade Charities Trust Postgraduate Bursaries - for the child, spouse, widow, widower or anyone personally employed as a pharmacist
  • The Foulkes Foundation Fellowships - supporting post-doctoral scientists wishing to undertake a medical degree to make a contribution to medical research in all disciplines
  • Royal Society of Tropical Medicine & Hygiene - funding for early career researchers and global health professionals based anywhere in the world who wish to study any topic related to tropical medicine and global health, from across the research spectrum of lab, translation, implementation and policy, and should take up to one year. 
  • Snowden Master's Scholarships scholarships of up to £30,000 to accelerate the most exceptional disabled students through their Master’s studies and into leadership. Eligibility is for students who have UK home fee status, or are international students who completed their undergraduate degree in the UK.

Any scholarship/studentship/fellowship or grant can be used as an alternative to, or part-funding of, a Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine scholarship.
