Project Title: Housing Assessment for Malaria control using Light Detection and Ranging (LiDAR) Technology [HAMLET].
Project Summary: Malaria is primarily transmitted by mosquitoes that bite indoors. Thus, strategies to keep mosquitoes out of houses can prevent malaria. However, in sub-Saharan Africa, house construction varies depending on economic constraints, technical knowledge, and cultural practices, making designing and tailoring house modifications for malaria control challenging. We propose to use a 3D scanning device to create detailed maps of local houses in malaria-endemic areas to better understand housing construction and the risk of indoor malaria transmission and to support the design and scale-up of housing interventions.
