Today LSTM’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) has taken place, with members of the board, trustees, assistant directors along with staff and invited guests coming together to celebrate the achievements of the last 12 months and discuss the next phase in LSTM’s future.

During the meeting members welcomed three new Vice Presidents: broadcaster Peter Sissons, the Lord-Lieutenant of Merseyside Dame Lorna Muirhead and the government’s Chief Medical Advisor Sir Mark Walport, previously the director of the Wellcome Trust.

Guests attending included long term friends of LSTM, two of Merseyside’s Mayors and the High Sherriff of Merseyside.

Overseen by LSTM’s Director, Professor Janet Hemingway CBE and Chairman James Ross OBE, the members officially ratified the 2012/13 Annual Report and Financial Statements – both now available online.

The AGM also paid tribute and took a moment of silence to commemorate the life and work of Juan Jesus Ortiz-Iruri who died tragically in the Westgate Shopping Mall terrorist attack in Nairobi earlier this year.

This year’s AGM was particularly interesting as members and guests celebrated LSTM’s 115th anniversary, the recent awarding of the HEI status and start of the latest phase in the LSTM’s expansion programme: the development of Anson House, across Pembroke Place from the original school building and the neighbouring Centre for Tropical Infection Diseases.
