This week has seen nine students from LSTM receiving their postgraduate research degrees during a ceremony at Liverpool’s Metropolitan Cathedral of Christ the King.

The international students, who came from Europe, Africa, Asia, the Middle East and North and South America, were presented to Liverpool University’s Vice Chancellor by LSTM’s Director of Education Dr Sue Assinder.

The ceremony was the culmination of years of study and their thesis subjects include: improving linkage into HIV care among adults in Blantyre, Malawi; mental health of conflict affected children in Southern Sudan and bioinformatics design of a toxin specific antivenom to improve the treatment of snakebite in Africa.

Dr Assinder met with those students who were able to attend the graduation for a special lunch at LSTM after the ceremony. She was delighted to be part of the students’ special celebration: “It is a real pleasure to be able to congratulate our graduates in this way and it is gratifying to see all of their hard work recognised with their awards” said Dr Assinder: “LSTM has a proven track record of providing graduates with the tools they need to work within their chosen field and many of our alumni already hold eminent positions in fields of tropical medicine and global health. I want to wish these latest graduate lots of luck in their future study and work, and hope that LSTM has further opportunities to work with them going forward.”
