Background

Public health physician and methodologist. Dr. Steingart's main research interest is evidence-based tuberculosis diagnostics. She is the lead author of a Cochrane diagnostic test accuracy review on the Xpert MTB/RIF assay, a novel, rapid tuberculosis test.  She has recently completed an update of this review. In addition, she has published several non-Cochrane systematic reviews on the diagnostic accuracy of tuberculosis tests, including fluorescence microscopy and commercial serological tests. She is also a member of the Cochrane Diagnostic Test Accuracy Working Group. She is trained in the Grading of Recommendations Assessment, Development and Evaluation (GRADE) approach to grading the quality of evidence and strength of recommendations.  She has contributed to several recent World Health Organization policies on tuberculosis. She lives in Portland, Oregan, USA.
