Nara Tagiyeva-Milne

Senior Lecturer in Epidemiology

I joined the LSTM Faculty of Education in 2019 and am currently a Senior Lecturer in Epidemiology and Programme Co-Director for the Master of Public Health International (MPHI).

In my role, I lead and co-lead both on-campus and distance-learning modules, supervise Master’s and PhD dissertations, and mentor ECRs. I am also a co-chair on the Research Ethics Committee and a member of the Sustainability and Environment Committee at LSTM.

Externally, I contribute as a member of Working Group 5 within the Euro-CAN (Multi-Sectoral Responses to Child Abuse and Neglect in Europe) Action network, funded by the European Cooperation on Science and Technology (COST). Here, I provide methodological expertise on research related to child maltreatment in Europe, focusing on impacts during and beyond the COVID-19 pandemic.

My professional credentials include Fellowships with the Higher Education Academy and the Royal Society for Public Health, as well as memberships in The International Society of Global Health and The External Examiners’ Community of Practice. These affiliations enhance my educational and public health expertise, which I bring to my role at LSTM.

I hold a PhD in Environmental Medicine from the University of Aberdeen and an MPH from Cardiff University. While my research initially centred on respiratory epidemiology, my interests have since expanded to broader public health concerns, with the focus on evidence synthesis and quantitative research. I have a proven track record in securing research funding and publishing in high-impact journals.

My past experience includes working with humanitarian institutions such as the International Committee of the Red Cross and the UN World Food Programme, collaborating on TB projects with the Ministry of Health and WHO, and a clinical background specialising in asthma and allergies in Azerbaijan.
