This year, MUBAS has partnered with the Malawi Liverpool Wellcome Research Programme (MLW) for a series of workshops to empower women in science and innovation. Becky, who is also Chair of the Athena Swan Gender Equity programme at LSTM, highlighted the importance of women’s participation in innovation and Intellectual Property and science, reflecting on some of the impactful work carried out by LSTM’s Enterprise and Innovation Team. She has also been invited to present at a Women in Innovation Network later in the week as Chair of Athena Swan.
She said: “I am delighted to have been invited by MLW to speak at this event, members of the team have recently visited Liverpool, collaborating closely with myself and colleagues on our gender equity efforts through the Athena Swan framework. It’s exciting to see our shared commitment to creating a more equitable space for women in science and innovation. I hope this partnership continues to grow.”
Dr Brenda Kwambana, reader at MLW and lead on the LifeArc Dried Spot research project added: “Strong partnerships are key to unlocking women’s potential in science and innovation. By working together across institutions and borders, we can create an equitable innovation ecosystem that drives solutions for Malawi and beyond."
