Join us on Tuesday 10 December as Professor Jonathan Ball, LSTM’s Deputy Vice-Chancellor, will deliver his inaugural lecture titled Antibodies, Evolution, and the Spillover Threat: Preparing for the Next Pandemic.
Jonathan will draw on over 25 years of research successes and setbacks to explore how lessons learned from Hepatitis C virus studies laid essential foundations for his current work tackling today’s pandemic threats. Focusing on the complex interplay between host immunity and viral evolution, he highlights how harnessing antibodies from cows may lead to broadly effective treatments against deadly viruses like Lassa fever and emerging coronaviruses.
Offering a candid look at his experiences in media and public engagement, he discusses how transparent, compelling science communication can secure crucial support from funders and build public trust in an age of misinformation.
