We are holding an on-campus Humanitarian Discovery Day offering taster sessions to prospective students interested in studying for a humanitarian-related Master’s programme.

The sessions will provide an insight into the course content, the research project and the career opportunities within this continually evolving and dynamic subject area.

We offer two Humanitarian-related Master’s programmes:

MSc Humanitarian Studies

Master of Public Health (Humanitarian Health)

The day will be led by the LSTM Humanitarian Studies team: Imri Schattner-Ornan and Dr. Ian Madison.

We will explore the curriculum which prepares students for leadership roles and focuses on acquiring knowledge and understanding of policy and practice and developing responses to humanitarian problems and challenges. We will outline our approach to teaching using cutting-edge technology, and participants will undertake a risk-assessment activity to understand the skills required and used in a variety of situations. We will also look at possible career paths, using our alumni’s professional progression to highlight the areas you could work in.

Our discovery day is designed to give you an opportunity to develop real skills that can also be used in other settings while learning more about the impact that Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine has at the forefront of UK science and as a global force for good, impacting the health and lives of the most disadvantaged communities.

Schedule:

2pm                    Welcome and introductions to the humanitarian programmes

2:30pm              Introduction to the humanitarian risk assessment (core concepts)

3pm                    Core activity group session. Participants will work in groups to identify risks, vulnerabilities, impacts,    prevention and mitigation and organise them on a risk assessment matrix.
