Dr Lesosky will discuss her experiences and thoughts on developing highly skilled capacity in research (biostatistics) on the continent especially in the broader context of research inequalities across regions. She will talk specifically about the Academy of Medical Sciences Newton Advance Fellowship program with LSTM using some preliminary modelling results from longitudinal cohort studies in the Gambia and South Africa.

Dr Lesosky is an applied biostatistician and Head of Division of Epidemiology & Biostatistics at the School of Public Health & Family Medicine, University of Cape Town. She has more than a decade of experience in heath sciences research, the last six of which have been spent working with clinical researchers in Africa. Most of her current work is focused on HIV monitoring and respiratory disease in Africa. She is an EDCTP Senior Fellow and an Academy of Medical Sciences Newton Advance Fellow (with LSTM).

This seminar will be livestreamed and a recording will be made available the following day
