LSTM played host to a visit from the High Commissioner of the Republic of Mozambique, his Excellency Carlos dos Santos on Monday, when he met with LSTM’s Director Professor Janet Hemingway as part of a visit to the region.

He arrived with Richard Kemp, chair of the recently formed Liverpool Commonwealth Association and was introduced to Professor Hemingway, along with Sian Freer, Dr Miriam Taegtmeyer, Dr Mike Coleman. His Excellency had the opportunity to sign the official visitor’s book and then learned more about the many projects that LSTM is currently involved in within Mozambique. These include the work of the REACHOUT consortium working to develop the role of close to the community healthcare providers, LSTM’s involvement in mass drug administration (MDA) programmes for the elimination of lymphatic filariasis and malaria control programmes looking at the use of indoor residual spraying (IRS).

Following his meeting at LSTM, the International Trade Executive of the Liverpool and Sefton Chamber of Commerce organised a number other meetings for him about trade between the region and Mozambique before a VIP and Gala concert at St George’s Hall to celebrate the 40 years of Mozambique’s independence.
