Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine (LSTM) hosted a charity partnership event that brought together immersive reality, captivating science, and networking opportunities for Chamber members. The event marked the official launch of the Chamber’s Charity of the Year Partnership 2023/24 with LSTM.

LSTM, established in 1898 as the first school of tropical medicine worldwide, shares a deep-rooted history with the Chamber, dating back to Sir Alfred Lewis Jones, the Chamber's President in 1903.

The collaboration between LSTM and the Liverpool Chamber aims to provide scholarships for promising students from the Northwest region. These transformative opportunities will equip talented individuals with the necessary expertise and leadership qualities to become the next generation of global health leaders. By investing in education and development, this partnership aspires to break down barriers for future leaders in health who will drive positive change and make significant contributions to global health challenges in the future.

LSTM’s selection as the Liverpool Chamber of Commerce's Charity of the Year for 2023 holds special significance, as LSTM celebrates its 125th anniversary in the same year. Marking this milestone, LSTM invited Chamber members to networking reception at the new multi-million-pound education facility, Pembroke House, offering an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at one of Liverpool’s hidden gems.

LSTM's researchers took centre stage, providing hands-on encounters with their groundbreaking work. Guests had the opportunity to interact with snake venom research, mosquitoes, and a variety of parasites and microorganisms, delving into the captivating world of tropical medicine under the guidance of LSTM's passionate scientific community.

During the reception, Lizzie Johnson, Head of Commercial Services, and colleagues from LSTM shared their plans for the institution's exciting 125th anniversary year as Charity Partner with the Chamber.

“We are thrilled to join forces with the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine as our Charity of the Year for 2023. LSTM's groundbreaking research and dedication to improving global health align perfectly with our mission to foster positive social impact within our community. Together, we will make a meaningful difference."

Commenting on the evening, Isabel Lucas, Dean of Education at LSTM, said "Yesterday's event marked an important milestone in LSTM's remarkable journey. Our immersive reality suit and interactive science demonstrations showcased the incredible work being done by our education team and researchers. As we celebrate our 125th anniversary, we look forward to collaborating with Liverpool Chamber to amplify our impact and drive positive change."
