Dr Mary McCauley of the Centre for Maternal and Newborn Health, has recently been presented a Global Health Globe from the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists as the winner of the RCOG Global Health Strategy photograph competition.

During the RCOG launch of the global health strategy they asked for member’s photographs and the stories behind them.  Mary submitted a number of photographs all based around her year volunteering in Ethiopia as an Obstetrician and Gynaecologist with Voluntary Services Overseas (VSO) as part of the RCOG-VSO fellowship.

One of her photographs of a mother and child in Ethiopia was selected as the winner and is now on display in the education centre at the RCOG and used in Global Health Strategy media.

‘I am grateful to the RCOG for the opportunity to take a year out of clinical training to work aboard in Ethiopia.  As a result of this experience, I have further developed my interest in research within the context of global maternal health and am delighted to be working within the Centre for Maternal and Newborn Health at present’.
