World Health Organization Collaborating Centres

LSTM’s has been designated by WHO as a World Health Organization (WHO) Collaborating Centre for the Evidence Synthesis for Infectious and Tropical Diseases.

An initiative led by Professor Paul Garner and supported by the Cochrane Infectious Diseases Group, supports WHO in developing recommendations for health care policy, developing guidelines for the management of infectious diseases, organising training in research methods and assisting in the communication of research results to policy makers, clinicians, teachers and the public in developing countries.

Terms of reference:

  • To provide rigorous, up to date systematic reviews to help inform decision making
  • To help build capacity in developing countries in research synthesis
  • To support WHO guideline development
  • To help WHO in its role as an infomediary in communicating reliable summaries of research evidence to policy makers, clinicians, teachers and the public in developing countries
