Vector control is the most effective means to prevent malaria transmission but new tools are urgently needed to combat resistance and to attack mosquitoes not targeted by current measures.
The AvecNet Consortium, funded by the European Commission, presents a focussed and pragmatic approach to meet this challenge. By filling important knowledge gaps on vector behaviour and evaluating novel and improved products in multiple settings we are accelerating the development of urgently needed new vector control tools. The portfolio of activities includes a clinical trial of a new, combination bednet, Olyset Duo, designed to tackle insecticide resistant vectors. In addition AvecNet is building advanced capabilities in Europe and Africa providing a foundation for future developments in the field of vector control. More information about this consortium is available on the website.
