Mary Iwaret Otiti

Trial Manager

I joined LSTM in 2020 as the trial manager for the PROSYNK study, under Prof Stephen Allen within LSTM’s research collaboration with KEMRI’s Centre for Global Health Research and the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in western Kenya. The main aim was to contribute to research studies with a main focus in child health. Prior to that, I was involved in pneumococcal vaccine studies mainly in Coastal Kenya. I was a research medical officer and project coordinator at the Epidemiology and Demography department at KEMRI-Wellcome Trust Research Programme.. Before joining the research institutions, I was in clinical practice at Mbagathi county hospital in Nairobi, Kenya. I hold both a BSc. in Human Anatomy and a medical degree from the University of Nairobi where I participated in research studies in human anatomy.

My current interest is in child health, specifically pediatric gastroenterology seeking interventions for preventing childhood malnutrition. I have previously undertaken research on transmission dynamics of pneumococci after introduction of the pneumococcal conjugate vaccine (PCV10) in Kenya.

I am a member of the Gut Health Research Group, Kenya Medical Association(KMA) and the Kenya Medical Women’s Association (KMWA)
