Dr Naomi Walker PhD FRCP
Senior Clinical Lecturer in Experimental Medicine
LSTM
Speaker: Naomi is a Senior Clinical Lecturer at LSTM and Consultant in Tropical & General Internal Medicine at Liverpool University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. Her research aims to reduce TB morbidity and mortality through improved understanding of disease pathogenesis, with a focus on the interaction between HIV and TB and prevention of immunopathology.
Topic: Tuberculosis (TB) continues to cause unacceptably high mortality and morbidity worldwide. Naomi will give an overview of her previous work investigating the pathophysiology of tissue damage in TB and the TB immune reconstitution inflammatory syndrome (TB-IRIS). She will introduce work in progress investigating poor outcomes from TB, including post-TB lung disease, and discuss the case for host-directed therapies to improve long term health following TB.
