The University College Hospital, established in 1957 is the teaching hospital of the College of Medicine, University of Ibadan and is the first in Nigeria.

The hospital is 850 bedded and has a 38 bedded neonatal unit which also provides coverage for the labour and postnatal wards. 

The Unit has 2 wards:
Outborn ward 16bedded – outborn for babies > 48hours
SCBU 22 bedded – inborn and outborn ( babies < 48hrs) wings
2 KMC rooms within SCBU

The unit is being run by 3 consultants, 4 senior registrars and 4 registrars, houseofficers and 50 nurses
The unit provides tertiary level care for all categories of newborns
